History of School.
The school was founded on 6th April 1980 in a ceremony at Yew Tree Farmhouse, Tibenham, Norfolk. The school opened the following morning with three children and two teachers, Peter Reeve, and his wife, Roswitha, who had previously trained together at Emerson College, Sussex. Peter had subsequently worked as a class teacher for 5 years at Michael House School in Derbyshire.The School was moved within weeks to the Church Hall at Old Buckenham, where it remained for five years. Seeking a location closer to Norwich, in 1985 the school was moved to the former county primary school premises at Wroxham. At this point, two other teachers joined and a kindergarten formed. A company limited by guarantee was registered to take over the school and local anthroposophists elected as trustees for the charitable trust. This was originally called 'The New School, Wroxham Association Ltd.'
The name of the Company was later changed to 'The Norwich Steiner School Association Ltd.' It has a Constitution provided by the Steiner Waldorf Schools Association Limited. For the last few years the school has been registered with the Steiner Waldorf Schools Fellowship as an affiliated school. Thus far, the school has remained a community-based enterprise.
Over the years, 50 former pupils have transferred to Steiner Waldorf Schools. A number of ex-pupils have gone on to further education, to College and to university, taking up places in the arts, languages and in sciences. The founding teachers still work daily at the school. Enquiries are invited from interested parents and prospective teachers. though it might be added that teachers' remuneration is less than £4,000 p.a. Holding down overheads has enabled the school to survive into its 25th year.
Currently, in 2005 the kindergarten teacher is Ms Hyunju Han, John Farrow takes Class 1 and 2, Peter Reeve takes Class 3 and 4, whilst Mrs. Roswitha Reeve takes Class 5 and 6.
